The St. Mary’s Alumnae Nepal (ASMAN) from its inception has been contributing towards women, girl child and community of Nepal. We believe, the education we received from St. Mary's School should be utilized for the benefit of underprivileged female society at large. Hence, among many other initiatives of ASMAN Executive Committee, coordinators Binu Shrestha, Susan Sakya Bajracharya and Ranu Shah conducted the Women Skill Development Training from 23 – 30 April 2017 (one week) to 32 local women of Lubhoo where they learnt to make local Nepali incense (Bateko Dhoop), where the dust of some herbs is wrapped in small pieces of Nepali paper.

The training was very useful for the local women of Lubhoo and nearby. The initial 32 women participants waned to 4 also on Mother's Day but on average there were 10 participants per day.  It was clear that some mothers were very determined to utilize this opportunity despite having to bring along their small babies to the classroom, incessant rain and other obligations at home. Trainer was Mrs. Gyani Maya Shrestha to whome ASMAN family is very greatful.

There were 4 participants eager to pursue this Dhoop making as their profession and become independent. So ASMAN has made arrangement to collect their product in school by two teachers and sending it to REWA, a single women's organization run by Mrs. Rekha Shrestha and Women's Creation, run by Mrs. Binu Shrestha and Mrs. Milu Thapa. Realizing that training only was not sufficient for the women, we have linked them to the market also, which we hope will encourage them to take up this as their profession.  We have also decided to label the product with a sticker written "Supported by ASMAN".

The certificate distribution day was a rainy and very cold day, but we could see the participants' zeal to make it to the last. To motivate the participants, the coordinators had already prepared gift hampers for the 3 best deserving students in coordination with Mrs. Gyani. Sr. Regina, Mrs. Kamal Keshari Tuladhar, President of ASMAN along with the coordinators was present during the certificate distribution. We hope to take this training to more advanced level by observing the participants' performance and their interest for few months.
